MIDDLEBURY, Vt.--Sophomore goalie Rachel Loseby made 10 saves, but No. 2 Middlebury handed Keene State College an 8-0 loss in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday morning at Kohn Field.

How it Happened

The Panthers nearly got on the board in the fourth minute, but Jordyn Martin's defensive save kept Middlebury's leading scorer, Erin Nicholas, off the board.   Three minutes later, Nicholas beat KSC goalie Rachel Loseby, then assisted on Middlebury's second when she set up Grace Jennings in the 14th minute.  Middlebury then made it 3-0 on Emma Johns' marker in the 18th before Nicholas added another in the 26th minute.

Loseby stood on her head to keep it at 4-0, turning away three successive shots by Murphy and another from Isabel Chandler as the half died down.  Another save from Julia Richards' attempt as the half ticked away kept it 4-0 at halftime.

Tha Panthers made it 5-0 early in the second half, and the Owls got their first shot on goal in the 49th minute when Erica Stauffer's effort was turned away by Middlebury goalie Megan Collins.  The Panthers added three more goals in the last 13 minutes to set the final margin

Penalty Strokes

• Loseby made 10 saves in total, her fourth game of the season with at least that many.
• The game marked the end of the careers of seniors Julia Babbitt, Erica Stauffer, Mia Brickley, and Courtney Jessup.   The four won four LEC tournament championships and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament three times in their careers, never winning less than 14 games in any season.
• Martin became the fourth different player to have a defensive save for KSC this season.

• The Keene State season comes to an end.  The Owls reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in the last seven years.  Middlebury moves on to the quarterfinals, where they will face No. 7 TCNJ for a spot in the semifinals.
