KINGSTOWN, R.I.--The 2019-20 season came to an end for the Keene State College swimming and diving team on the final day of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships at the Tootell Aquatic Center on Sunday afternoon.
Men's Highlights
George Colarullo won a diving event for the second day in a row, taking the 3-meter board with a score of 386.85 to win by over 10 points. It's the second year in a row Colarullo has won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Eric King joined him in the winner's circle, taking the the 100 IM in 53.88.
Quint Kimmel was seventh in the mile, with a time of 17:18.62, while Zach Payne was second in the 50 back in 24.90. JT Barth was third in the 200 breast in 2:12.00, while Payne added another second place finish, this one in the 200 fly in 1:58.43. Payne, Kimmel, Jacob Peters, and King made up the 400 free relay unit that was fourth in 3:17.66.
The Owls finished second as a team, with 588 points; Roger Williams took home the team title with 1,041 points. The second place finish is an improvement of four places from KSC's sixth place nod in 2019, and the highest finish since the Owls won the championship in 2016.
Women's Highlights
Sophie Hayes won the 200 fly in 2:10.34, while Samantha Dickinson won the 100 IM in 1:02.17. Dickinson, Jaelin Jang, Erin Morley, and Paige Carey composed the 400 free relay in 3:42.54 for a third place finish. Molly O'Connor was fifth in the mile, in 18:59.61, and Madison Pechulis was third in the 200 breast in 2:30.82.
Keene State totalled up 1,094 points for a third place finish; Roger Williams won the women's meet with 1,519 points and Simmons University was in second with 1,426. Keene State improved one place from 2019, and notched its highest finish since coming in third in 2018.
The meet wraps up the careers of seniors Sophie Hayes, Sydney McGough, Erin Morley, Molly O'Connor, Emily Peach, Madison Pechulis, Olivia Pechulis, Maureen Pycko, Bryce Bowie, Zack Collins, Eric King, and Zach Payne. The Owl women won the Little East Conference championship in each of their four seasons, and the Keene State men won the inaugural LEC Invitational in 2020.
