Women First, Men Second After First Day of LEC Championships

BOSTON, Mass.--The Keene State College women's swim and dive team surged into a huge lead, while the men's team remains in contention after the first day of the Little East Conference Championships at the Boston Sports Institute on Sunday evening.

- The evening started off brightly, as Kiley Young, Jillian O'Neil, Gina Nunziata, and Jaelin Jang teamed up to win the 200 free relay in 1:40.50.
- Keene State took three of the top four places in the 500 free, as Alice Loucraft was the winner in 5:12.98, while Emily Rogers was third in 5:37.28 and Laura Chaffee was fourth in 5:40.35.
- Jang also added a win in the 100 fly, in 1:00.63.
- Paige Carey was also victorious, capturing the 50 breaststroke in 30.41.
- Young won the 200 backstroke, touching in in 2:09.07.
- Loucraft also won the 200 IM, with an eight second win in 2:10.69.
- The evening ended with another KSC win, this one in the 400 medley relay as Young, Carey, Jang, and Loucraft cruised to victory in 4:04.28.
- The Owls totaled up 313 points on the first night of competition, leading second placed Bridgewater State by 66 points.  The Owls have won 17 LEC championships, including 14 straight from 2006-2020 before the 2021 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  KSC also won titles from 2000-2002.

Men's Highlights
- The men also captured the 200 free relay, with the foursome of Aaron Turgeon, Jeremy Bartley, Tomas Langland, and Tyler Young winning in 1:28.04.
- Aidan Urnezis won the 500 free, in 4:50.94.
- Young nabbed an individual win in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 52.46 to nip Christopher Anastisiades of Bridgewater State by .19 seconds.
- Andrew Daur picked up big points in the 200 backstroke, winning by a mere .17 seconds in 2:04.10.
- Keene State is in second place after day one, picking up 319 points to trail Bridgewater State by two points.  The competition is the first time the Little East Conference has sponsored a swimming championship for men.
