WESTON, Mass. – The Keene State College men's and women's diving teams had a busy weekend to wrap up their first semester meets at the Regis (Mass.) Invitational on Friday and Saturday, along with the divers traveling to the RPI Diving Invitational on Saturday and Sunday for the Owls.
Rory Lee led KSC on the women's side by placing first in all six of her events, accounting for one-third of the Owls' 18 first place finishes on the women's side across the Regis Invitational. Lee's time of 19:09.19 in the 1650 yard free is a new pool record, to go with her other two first place individual finished, coming in the 500 free (5:33.85) and 1000 free (11:23.25). Lee was also a part of three other first place relay teams, with
Tallulah Going,
Kyleigh Dyer, and
London Armitage in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:47.12 (Lee had the best split in the event, 23.78). The other two first place relay finishes were a time of 3:56.16 in the 400 free relay (Lee had another best event split with a time of 57.50), alongside Armitage, Going, and
Samantha Taylor, and a time of 8:39.74 in the 800 free relay, with Taylor,
Hannah Reddick, and
Olivia Boulris. Armitage added two more individual and relay first place finishes to go with her previously mentioned relay finishes. Her time of 1:04.37 won her the 100 back, while she also won the 200 back with a time of 2:20.36. Her other two first place relay finished were the 200 medley relay, with a time of 1:58.37 along with
Adessa Noyes,
Amanda Davies, and Going, and the same relay group set the pool record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:25.66.
The Owls won eight more individual events, three being in the fly, with Taylor winning the 50 fly (29.09), Noyes winning the 100 fly (1:04.97) and
Rebecca Radonovich winning the 200 fly (2:26.48). Going (26.16) and Reddick (2:07.38) won the 50 free and 200 free, respectively. While the final three were
Emily Stokel in the 50 back (31.49),
Mia Destefani in the 200 breast (2:42.90) and Boulris in the 200 IM (2:28.13).
Aaron Turgeon led KSC on the men's side with seven of KSC's 13 first place finishes, with being individual events and three being relays. On Friday, Turgeon placed first three times, coming in the 100 fly (53.71), 100 IM (55.00), and had the fastest anchor split of 21.68 in the 200 medley relay (1:43.37) alongside Even Keefe,
Zach Perry, and
Zackary Menz. On Saturday, Turgeon added four more first place finishes, two being individual, coming in the 200 free (1:48.97) and 200 IM (2:04.19). While the other two were relays in the 400 medley (3:51.88) with Perry, Menz, and
Zachary Finman, which he anchored with a best time of 48.93, and the 200 free relay (1:31.51) with Perry, Finman, and Keefe, for the best time in the event of 21.91 and pool record in a 50 free split. Keefe also added a pair of first place individual finishes on the day to go with his two relay wins, as he won the 100 back (1:01.32) and 200 back (2:22.37). Finman tacked on an individual win to go with his two relay first place finishes, as he took home first in the 50 breast (29.27).
Alec Agosto wrapped up the wins on the men's side with three individual wins, coming in the 1000 free (10:51.10), 500 free (5:17.47), and 1650 free (18:18.03).
At the RPI Diving invitational on Saturday, all three KSC divers set personal bests, including the two best scores in an 11 Dive 3M event.
Carlie Cronin placed 12th with 294.20 points, while
Ayla Pullen tallied 347.60 for 10th place, and
Megan Strzegowski finished in 6th with 371.10 points. Pullen and Strzegowski both beat the former KSC record from Kelly Gilmore in 2012 of 340.85.
On Sunday at the meet, all five divers set personal bests in the 11 Dive 1M event.
Abigail Murphy recorded 320.15 points for 18th place, while Cronin scored 340.45 for 16th. Strzegowski finished in 10th with 382.85, with Pullen narrowly finishing ahead of her in ninth with 383.10 points. Maddie Keyes led the Owls on the day with her eighth-place finish of 398.70 points, which was an NCAA Division III Regional Qualifying score and the first Owl to do so since 2010. Pullen and Strzegowski both missed the mark by 12 points but will have the opportunity to reach the mark later in the season. Keyes, Pullen, and Strzegowski now are first, second, and third in program history for the highest score in the 11 Dive 1M event, as they all surpassed Rachel Battis' record of 344.95 points from 2010 over the weekend.
The Owls will next be in action at Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, January 11, at 11:00 am.
