KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College athletic department named
Aidan Law of the men's indoor track and field team and
Valerie Luizzi of the women's basketball team this week's Owl Athletes of the Week. This week's selection encompassed action from December 1 through December 8.
Aidan Law, a senior from Higganum, Conn., picked up where he left off in his junior season for the Owls as he continued to set national marks in the long jump. At the Suffolk Relays, Law set a mark of 7.19 meters, winning the event by .29m. Law's mark is currently the eighth-best in all of NCAA Division III as the mark would have qualified him for NCAAs last season, and was an automatic qualifying mark for New England Division III later in the winter. Law was also part of the Owls' spring medley relay as he ran the second leg and helped lead KSC to a first-place finish with a time of 3:37.57.
Valerie Luizzi, a senior guard from Colchester, Connecticut, helped lead the Owls to a 2-0 week to kick off LEC play as KSC stayed hot to improve to 7-2 heading into the holiday break. Over the two games on the week, Luizzi scored 16.5 points per game on 52.2% from the field, and 43.8% from three. To go with her 16.5 points per game, Luizzi also logged five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game across the Owls' wins. Luizzi continues to move closer to the 1,000 career point milestone as she needs just 26 points to become the 22nd Owl in program history to reach the milestone.
