KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College athletic department named
Emily O'Connell of the women's soccer team and
Katie Taylor of the volleyball team this week's Owl Athletes of the Week. This week's selection encompassed action from September 8 through September 14.
Emily O'Connell, a junior midfielder from Plymouth, Massachusetts, was a huge part in why the Owls were able to go 1-0-1 over their two games on the week as she scored the only two goals on the week. Against Westfield State University she scored the Owls' lone goal on their 1-0 victory. After her shot was stopped by a defender's arm on the goal line, she connected on the penalty kick for the game-winner. Against Eastern Connecticut State University, when it looked like the Warriors were going to take home the 1-0 victory, O'Connell netted the game-tying goal with just 44 seconds remaining to steal a point for the Owls in the LEC standings.
Katie Taylor, a freshman middle blocker from Marlborough, Massachusetts, was a major contributor for KSC in their 2-1 week, including their tri-match sweep over Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Western New England University on Saturday. Across the three matches on the week, Taylor had a team-high .378 attacking percentage from the second-most kills over the three matches with 24. Taylor also had eight blocks on the week, including four against WNE.
