Murray Leads Owls With Fourth-Place Finish Individually

KEENE, N.H. – Sadie Murray led the Keene State College women's golf team with a fourth place individual finish as the Owls finished second as a team at their own invitational on a beautiful Sunday at the Keene Country Club, posting a new team low score on their own course in the history of the young program.

KSC shot a 373 as a team, 15 strokes better than their "A" entry at last year's event.  The Owls were over 430 each of their other three times and with their "B" team last season.  This year, they have posted three team scores all well under 400.

Murray, a freshman, shot an 87 (+15) to finish fourth – just five strokes behind Suffolk University's Brooke Bugajewski in third.  She birdied both No. 11 and No. 18 and added five pars to her round, including on the 474-yard Par 5 No. 13.  Madison Mousley added a 93 that included four pars on the back nine.  She finished ninth individually, while Abby Weiterman was right behind with a 96 that included a birdie on No. 18.  Mackenzie Hagearty shot a 97 to round out KSC's scorers, posting a birdie on the first hole – one of four for the Owls as a team on the day.

Team champion Suffolk recorded eight birdies as a group, paced by Bugajewski's three.  Individual medalist Krisna Mehandran shot a 79 with two birdies.  She had five pars on the back nine where she was just two-over, beating runner-up and teammate Emily Goodson (81) by two shots.  Goodson also excelled on the back nine, finishing only one over on 10 through 18 after a 44 on the front.

Keene State finished higher than many of their new Little East Conference counterparts, including beating third-place Husson University by 10 strokes.  Abigail Theriault shot a 37 with a birdie and six pars on the front nine before shooting a 53 on the back to lead her team with a 90.  The Eagles are a part of the new LEC women's golf conference, as are the University of Southern Maine (414), Eastern Connecticut State University (474), and Westfield State University (483).  The first-ever league championship will be held October 22-24 in Warwick, R.I., hosted by Rhode Island College.

KSC is back in action next Sunday (October 5) when they travel to the first-annual Warrior Invitational, slated to start at 11:24 a.m.
