WINDHAM, Conn. – Senior Madi Mousley led the way with an 89 including a 43 on the back nine as the Keene State College women's golf team opened their 2026-2027 season at the five-team Eastern Connecticut State University Women's Collegiate Invitational on Friday at the par-71 Windham Country Club.
KSC, who rallied on the second and final day of the inaugural Little East Conference championship a season ago, got a firsthand look at fellow league compatriots in the host Warriors as well as Western Connecticut State University while Albertus Magnus College and Lasell University were also participants in the season-opening invitational. The Owls shot a 375 as a team to place second, with Eastern newcomer Caroline Goderre and her effort of a 73 – including three birdies and an eagle – proving to be the ultimate difference maker in the team leaderboard as the hosts shot a 363.
Mousley led the way for the Owls and was fourth individually at the event, finishing with an 89 that included five pars and a birdie, with four of the pars coming on holes ten through 18 as she was three strokes better on the final nine.
Abby Weiterman finished with a 92 that included a birdie on No. 8, while
Mackenzie Hagearty shot a 96 and
Sadie Murray a 98.
Marley Ducharme finished with a 99 to round out KSC's contingent.
The Owls were the only team to have four scorers and all five golfers below 100 at the event and had everyone within the top ten individually on the leaderboard, though Eastern Connecticut also got an 84 from Daria Fournier (tied for second individually). Albertus Magnus got two birdies and an 84 from Molly Martin, who also tied for second, but the Falcons were nine strokes worse than KSC. WestConn finished with a 436 and Lasell a 508 to round out the team scoring.
"It was a good start to the season with all scores under 100," said Owls head coach
Jeff Timmer. "We are going to have to play team golf and support each other because it looks like some other teams got a little better."
KSC travels to Rhode Island College next Friday for an invitational with the Anchorwomen and Westfield State University at the Valley Country Club.
